Studio32 returns to the Arts Centre with Eight, a contemporary and challenging piece of theatre, most recently performed at the Edinburgh Fringe.

An offbeat glimpse into modern life, Eight presents a series of monologues, each offering compelling and dark comic insight into the nation’s state. Expect a collection of oddballs struggling to define what it is to be normal amidst the dissolution of social, moral, sexual and cultural boundaries of our world today.

Eight is the first play written by Ella Hickson. Hickson created eight monologues ready to premier at Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival in August 2008. These 15-minute monologues were written with the goal of portraying a state-of-the-nation group portrait. The official website for eight describes the performance as “looking at what has happened to a generation that has grown up in a world where everything has become acceptable.”

‘Hickson’s writing remains astonishing, with a huge angry energy and poetry’
